Why Spending Over $3,000 on Dead Passions Was Worth Every Penny

Before I explain why self-discovery is priceless, let me share what it looks like in my life.

By the way, you can break up with me if my emails aren't what you signed up for. It's not you, it's me. I'm in my exploration phase for the next 6-12 months. Use the link at the bottom of this email.

This morning, I almost dropped everything to chase a fleeting passion. A moment that sums up my entire life.

I thought I could learn "Yebba’s Heartbreak" on guitar. It’s insane because I haven’t played guitar in months.

I was ready to set up a camera and record myself without learning it.

My wife has to put up with this more than anyone.

But she’s not the only one.

My mother got exhausted of keeping up with my passions.

She questioned every new one I had.

One time, I begged her to buy me an expensive Dungeons & Dragons Gamebook set.

In reluctance she asked, "Is this going to be another one of those things you do for three weeks and then abandon?"

“No way,” I replied, gazing at the books as if they cast a golden shimmer on my face.

She called it. I used it a few times in grade school only to replace it with a new passion of figurine models.

This is the story of my life, and everyone knows it: I pick up a passion and then drop it for another.

That's why I find it embarrassing to share a new passion.

But, this is not a toxic trait as most people might perceive.

Discovering your passions and their impact on the world requires both time and money.

Despite investing in various passions, self-discovery is never a waste.

This is the consequence of being a multi-passionate person.

A New Yet Familiar Passion

There is one passion I have never given up: writing.

I've been rapping for 15 years, fascinated by word flow.

But now, I am now taking my writing to new levels. I’m learning how to captivate my audience, whether they are my readers or my congregation.

It might still be too early to notice any difference, haha.

In Short,

You may be longing to find a new passion. You may be jumping from one passion to another. It’s okay. It’s all part of discovering yourself.

I wouldn’t suggest anyone to follow their heart, but follow your joy when it comes to passions.

What is it that brings you the most joy?

Never feel guilty about swapping passions if the new one brings more joy.

Make sure you're not swapping to avoid the hard work of elevating your current passion.

Life’s too short to leave the uncharted corners of your soul unexplored.

Steps to Discover Your Passion
  1. List all the things that interest you.

  2. Circle three that mean the most to you.

  3. Pick one that resonates with a deeper purpose.

  4. (Bonus) Ask people closest to you what topic you are raving about with excitement.

That one thing might be the next passion you invest in.
